  • Tutoring/Mentoring

    Tutoring/Mentoring

Tutors are specifically matched with a child who needs a little extra boost in their reading skills. This is targeted to help the child overcome the reading proficiency achievement gap. These tutors meet with their student once a week for thirty to forty-five minutes at the school campus, but this time together provides even more benefit than just tutoring. It forms a mentoring relationship, and this positive relationship building has the power to help a child grow confidence, and their increasing success in learning to read also grows their academic self-esteem.

  • One-Eighty After School Club

    One-Eighty After School Club

The One-Eighty Club provides a unique opportunity for reaching school children.  The club takes place at the school, and it lasts for approximately one hour. The focus is to build the child’s self-esteem through an emphasis on their immeasurable worth to God. We teach applicable life lessons, sing songs, play games, and actively listen to the kids.

  • Commitments of a Team Member

    Commitments of a Team Member

Children gain confidence to close the academic achievement gap and emotional gap through the work of our team, but growth does not happen overnight. It takes trust, and the only way to build that trust is by dedicating the time necessary to build it. That is why trust is a core value at Minding the Gap, and it is why we ask for a twofold commitment from all of our volunteers: We ask for a full school year commitment (August thru May) We ask team members to invest one hour per week

As Principal of Warford Elementary, I have confidence that Minding the Gap staff will respond to their call by creating love and trust for students in the community. I have seen this firsthand with many of their members working with students at my school through the Caring for Kids partnership. Pastor Zack has been a champion for Warford Elementary. He orchestrates great plans to garner volunteers to support my school with amazing follow through. They give families resources. but most importantly, give students the time and attention needed to succeed in school through mentorship. His passion for working with staff and students right in his community is to be honored. Our school is blessed that we have a partner who is a champion for children.
